What the city won't take.
Both McKinney and Frisco run bulk collection. Both stop well short of what actually comes out of a garage, an attic or a remodel — and the exclusions are set by ordinance, not by the crew's discretion.
Refused by both cities
| Item | Where it actually has to go |
|---|---|
| Construction & remodel debris | Private hauler, or an authorized container |
| Drywall, tile, flooring, lumber | Same — counts as remodel waste |
| Household hazardous waste | McKinney: free curbside HHW, 12×/yr · Frisco: ECC, 6616 Walnut St |
| Tires | Tire retailer or recycler; small fee typical |
| Paint, solvents, fuel | HHW programs only — never curbside |
Where the two cities differ
This surprises people who move across the county line. On electronics they are opposites.
| Item | McKinney | Frisco |
|---|---|---|
| Televisions & monitors | Free, 12×/yr — 1 per pickup | Refused at curb |
| Computers & e-waste | Free curbside | Drive to the ECC |
| Refrigerators & freezers | Only with Freon evacuation proof | Refused — ECC, $40 Freon fee |
| Large metal items | Accepted as bulky | Separate $15 pickup |
| Trash bags (any contents) | Refused outright | Not specified |
| Treated wood & fence panels | Refused | One panel or 5 boards |
| Volume limit | 3.5 × 3 × 9 ft pile | 5 items, 50 lb each |
Two rules do most of the damage.
Frisco's 50-pound cap disqualifies most sofas, treadmills and appliances even though furniture is nominally accepted. McKinney's Freon-evacuation requirementasks for documentation from a certified technician that almost no homeowner can produce. Between them they account for most of the calls we take.
If you live in an apartment
McKinney classifies apartment complexes as commercial properties, which excludes those residents from residential bulky, e-waste and HHW collection entirely. Frisco's Chunk Your Junk events are likewise limited to utility-account holders — apartment dwellers are not eligible. In both cities, renters in multifamily housing have no municipal bulk option at all.
What we take that they don't
Effectively everything on the lists above, from wherever it sits — not just the curb.
