What will McKinney and Frisco curbside not pick up?

Both cities refuse construction, demolition and remodeling debris outright. McKinney also excludes tires, pallets, treated wood and fence panels, bagged yard waste and trash bags regardless of contents, and requires Freon evacuation proof for refrigerators. Frisco additionally refuses all electronics and televisions, refrigerators and freezers, and large metal items, and caps everything at five items a month under 50 pounds.

Why won't the city take my remodel debris?

Both McKinney and Frisco exclude construction and remodeling waste from residential collection by ordinance, not by preference. That means every remodel, roof tear-off and fence replacement falls outside city service and needs a private hauler or an authorized container.

Both McKinney and Frisco run bulk collection. Both stop well short of what actually comes out of a garage, an attic or a remodel — and the exclusions are set by ordinance, not by the crew's discretion.

The one rule that catches everyone: neither city accepts construction, demolition or remodeling debris. Not once a year, not for a fee. Every kitchen remodel, roof tear-off and fence replacement in both cities is outside municipal service by law.

Two rules do most of the damage.

Frisco's 50-pound cap disqualifies most sofas, treadmills and appliances even though furniture is nominally accepted. McKinney's Freon-evacuation requirementasks for documentation from a certified technician that almost no homeowner can produce. Between them they account for most of the calls we take.

If you live in an apartment

McKinney classifies apartment complexes as commercial properties, which excludes those residents from residential bulky, e-waste and HHW collection entirely. Frisco's Chunk Your Junk events are likewise limited to utility-account holders — apartment dwellers are not eligible. In both cities, renters in multifamily housing have no municipal bulk option at all.
